Ireland February deadlines

Employers pay January's PAYE liability within 14 days after the end of the month, or 23 days on ROS, and a company with a 31 May year end files its CT1 and pays any balance by February 23. St Brigid's Day is a public holiday on the first Monday in February, or on 1 February when that is a Friday, under S.I. No. 50 of 2022; T2 stays open on it. February carries no VAT date, because Revenue's two-month periods start in January, March, May, July, September and November. St Brigid's Day 2027 is Monday 1 February.

Those dates in 2027

Every date named above falls on a working day in 2027 under the Irish calendar. That is worth checking rather than assuming: the same calendar date moves through the week from year to year, so a date that settles cleanly this year may not next year.

Ireland reporting cycles and business-day rules

Revenue sets Irish VAT on two-month taxable periods starting in January, March, May, July, September and November: the return and payment are due by the 19th day of the month after each period, extended to the 23rd for ROS filers. An employer's monthly PAYE liability, shown on a Revenue statement built from the month's payroll submissions, is due 14 days after the end of the month, or 23 days for employers who file and pay on ROS. A company files its CT1 return and pays any balance nine months after the end of its accounting period, on or before the 23rd of the ninth month (the 21st if it does not file and pay electronically). T2, the Eurosystem's real-time gross settlement system, which replaced TARGET2 in March 2023, is open Monday to Friday and, for euro settlement, also closed on 1 January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May, 25 December and 26 December. It does not close for St Patrick's Day (17 March) or for the Irish public holidays in February, June, August and October, and it does close on 1 May, which is an Irish public holiday only when it is the first Monday in May. Under the European Communities (Late Payment in Commercial Transactions) Regulations 2012, as amended in 2013, 2014 and 2016, statutory late payment interest is the ECB main refinancing rate plus 8 percentage points; between undertakings a contract may vary that interest, provided the result is not grossly unfair to the creditor. A payment date or period that a contract between undertakings sets beyond 60 calendar days must be expressly agreed and not grossly unfair to the supplier. Where the contract specifies no date or period for payment, the payment date falls 30 calendar days after the purchaser receives the invoice, after delivery where the invoice arrives first or its date of receipt is uncertain, or after an acceptance or verification procedure where one applies and the invoice arrives no later than it. Interest runs from the day after the payment date.

February 2027 working days compared by country

Working-day counts vary across countries because each country observes its own public holidays. The table below shows February 2027 under 11 of the site's 25 holiday calendars; the summary above gives Ireland's own count.

How February 2027 compares year over year

February 2026 also had 19 working days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, January 2027 has 20 working days and March 2027 has 20. Looking forward, February 2028 has 20 working days under the same Irish holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in Ireland

Count the 19 business days of February 2027 against Revenue's dates when one is near: VAT for each two-month period is due by the 19th day of the following month, or the 23rd for ROS filers; an employer's PAYE for a month within 14 days after its end, or 23 days on ROS; and a company's CT1 return and balance on or before the 23rd of the ninth month after its accounting period ends (the 21st if it does not file and pay electronically). A euro payment that settles through T2 cannot settle on 1 January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May, 25 December or 26 December, although T2 does not close for St Patrick's Day or for the Irish public holidays in February, June, August and October. Where a contract specifies no date or period for payment, the Late Payment Regulations 2012, as amended, put the payment date 30 calendar days after the purchaser receives the invoice, after delivery where the invoice arrives first or its date of receipt is uncertain, or after an acceptance or verification procedure where one applies and the invoice arrives no later than it.

How February 2027 is shaped

The headline count answers how many working days February 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Irish holiday calendar and a working week that treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

The only month whose length changes

February is the shortest month and the only one whose length is not fixed, running 28 days in a common year and 29 in a leap year. A 28-day February is exactly four seven-day cycles, which makes it the only month capable of containing precisely four of every weekday. February 2027 runs 28 days, so it has that perfectly regular shape.

In February 2027 that comes to 19 working days across 28 calendar days, against 20 in January 2027 and 20 in March 2027.

The month opens on a closure

February 2027 begins on a public holiday. St Brigid's Day falls on the 1st, which is a Monday this year, so the calendar month and the working month start on different dates. Any obligation written as "the first of the month" and any obligation written as "the first working day" point at different days in February 2027, and a schedule that treats them as interchangeable is wrong by at least one day here.

The month's first working day is Tuesday, February 2, and February 2027 carries 19 working days in total.

How the working days break up

The working days of February 2027 fall into four separate stretches. The count of stretches matters more than it looks: a month's total is the sum of its runs, but a deliverable that needs consecutive days is limited by the longest single run, and the two numbers move independently.

The working days of February 2027 arrive in stretches of 4, 5, 5, and 5 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from February 8 to February 12. A task needing more consecutive working days than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is back-loaded. It opens with four consecutive days and closes with five, so the room is at the end rather than the start. That is the safer of the two imbalances, because a slip has somewhere to go, but it also makes the opening week a poor sample of the month.

The only perfectly regular month

A 28-day February is exactly four seven-day cycles, so every weekday occurs four times and no weekday is over-represented. It is the only month of the year that can be perfectly regular, and it means February's working-day count in a common year depends on nothing but its holidays: the weekday alignment cannot change the answer.

Only Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday among them are working days, so part of the surplus is absorbed by the Saturday and Sunday weekend and never reaches the working total. That split is why two months of the same length can carry different working-day counts without any holiday being involved.

One closure, and where it lands

February 2027 carries a single Irish closure on a working day: St Brigid's Day on Monday, February 1. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.

Falling in the first week, it takes its day out of the month's opening capacity, which is already the part of the month most schedules over-commit.

The closure arrives before any working day has passed, so February is interrupted before it has started and the whole of its 19 remaining working days sit after the break.

The closures around this month

February 2027 carries one Irish closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was New Year's Day on January 1, 2027, 31 calendar days before February began and the next is St Patrick's Day on March 17, 2027, 17 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2027 the Irish calendar puts ten closures on working days, of which one falls in February. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

The month ends over a weekend

February 2027 ends on a Sunday, which this calendar treats as weekend. Month-end processing cannot happen on the last calendar day, so it happens earlier and the last few dates of the month carry no settlement at all. The distance between the final working day and the final calendar day is where month-end reconciliations go missing.

The last working day of February 2027 is Friday, February 26. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Wednesday, February 24, four calendar days before the month closes.

The working month ends on the last working day of a week, so the final stretch is a complete one and nothing is left hanging mid-week. Two calendar days of February follow it with nothing settling on them.

The middle month of the quarter

February is the middle month of Q1. Middle months carry the least visibility in a quarterly cycle: the opening month sets expectations and the closing month is where they are settled, so a shortfall here is the one most likely to be noticed late.

Across the whole quarter there are 59 working days, of which 19 fall in February. The other two months carry January 2027 with 20 and March 2027 with 20. It is the smallest of the three, so the quarter's capacity sits mostly in the other two months and a plan that spreads work evenly across the quarter will over-commit February.

The week's first working day is the scarcest

The first working day of the week is the one February gives least often. Anything anchored to the start of the working week (a weekly kickoff, a Monday-morning cutoff, a start-of-week batch) fires fewer times this month than the calendar count suggests, because a closure has taken one of them out.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, February 2027 gives Monday 3, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, and Friday 4. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

One of the year's shortest working months

No month of 2027 carries fewer working days than February under the Irish calendar. Two forces set a month's position in that ranking, its length and its closures, and they can either compound or cancel: a long month with several closures and a short month with none can land on the same count.

2027 carries 251 working days in total under the Irish calendar. The longest month of the year is April 2027 with 22 and the shortest is February 2027 with 19, a spread of 3. February ranks 12th of the twelve with 19.

Ireland closures across the year

A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Ireland is placed as follows.

Across 2027 the Irish closures fall 5 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 1 in Q3, and 2 in Q4. Every holiday in the Irish data for 2027 falls on a working day, so the country's holiday count and its working-day loss are the same number this year, which is not usually the case.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between August 2, 2027 and October 25, 2027, 84 calendar days with no Irish closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Irish calendar is no exception.

2027 opens its Irish closures with New Year's Day on January 1, 2027 and ends them with St Stephen's Day (additional) on December 27, 2027. The densest month of the year is March 2027 with three closures on working days.

The same count as last year

February 2027 and February 2026 carry the same number of working days, 19 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.

February opens 2026 on a Sunday, 2027 on a Monday, and 2028 on a Tuesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The number of closures on working days is the same in both years, so the whole of any difference comes from weekday alignment. Looking ahead, February 2028 carries 20 working days.

Anchor dates that do not fall on working days

Three of the common monthly anchor dates in February 2027 land on a day this calendar does not work. A month with this many blocked anchors pushes several cycles onto the same few dates, because each of them resolves forward to the next available working day and those tend to be shared.

DateWeekdayStatus under the Irish calendarFirst working day on or after

February 20SaturdayWeekendFebruary 22, 2027

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in February 2027

An invoice dated the 1st of February on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on March 3, 2027, a working day under the Irish calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.

Invoice dateNet 30, calendar daysNet 60, calendar days

Dated February 28March 30, 2027April 29, 2027

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Ireland calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in February 2027 under the Irish holiday calendar?
February 2027 has 19 working days under the Irish holiday calendar. The month spans 28 calendar days, of which 8 fall on a weekend and 1 is an Irish holiday that lands on a weekday. The remaining 19 weekdays are countable as working days for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which Ireland holidays affect February 2027?
February 2027 contains one Irish holiday: St Brigid's Day on Monday, February 1. The calculator skips it. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
Why is St Brigid's Day included from 2023 onward?
S.I. No. 50 of 2022, made under the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997, prescribed St Brigid's Day as Ireland's tenth public holiday from 2023: the first Monday in February each year, or 1 February itself when that falls on a Friday. The explanatory note to the regulations ties the day to Imbolc and St Brigid, and names Monday 6 February 2023 as the first.
What happens when an Irish public holiday falls on a weekend?
It stays a public holiday on its own date: the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 moves none of them. The employee's benefit becomes a paid day off within a month, an extra day of annual leave or an extra day's pay, and the Workplace Relations Commission states that there is no legal entitlement to have the next working day off. The Banking & Payments Federation Ireland's bank-holiday lists still close the banks on the next free weekday after each weekend public holiday they cover. Government offices close it after a Sunday holiday (civil-service Circular 5/1984); after a Saturday one the circular only lets a department grant its staff a day off. This calculator counts that weekday as closed, marked (additional), where banks and Government offices both close it, which after a Saturday holiday means a department's own closure list shows it closed, and as a business day otherwise. Easter Monday, St Brigid's Day and the Monday holidays in May, June, August and October always fall on a weekday.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for Ireland. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Irish holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. February 2026 also had 19 working days, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year.
When is the last working day of February 2027?
The last working day of February 2027 under the Irish calendar is Friday, February 26. The month's last calendar day is Sunday, February 28, which is not a working day, so month-end processing has to happen two calendar days earlier than the calendar suggests. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Wednesday, February 24.
How many working days in a row does February 2027 offer?
February 2027 has 19 working days in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in four stretches of 4, 5, 5, and 5 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from February 8 to February 12. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
