Spain March deadlines

Withholding for February is due in the first twenty calendar days of March. The Renta campaign has not opened yet, which makes March preparation time rather than filing time: the AEAT sets the campaign dates each year in the Calendario del Contribuyente, and in recent years online filing has begun in the first half of April. Monthly IVA filers settle February in the first thirty days of March under Article 71.4 of the Reglamento del IVA.

Spain reporting cycles and business-day rules

Each provision cited here sets a filing window, not a single date. Article 71.4 of the Reglamento del IVA puts the quarterly VAT return (Modelo 303) in the first twenty días naturales (calendar days) of the month after the quarter, the return for the last period of the year in the first thirty of January, and a monthly return in the first thirty of the following month, or by the last day of February for January. Article 111.1 of the Reglamento del IRPF puts the pagos fraccionados (Modelos 130 and 131) between the 1st and the 20th of April, July and October, and the fourth quarter's between the 1st and the 30th of January. Under Article 108.1, withholdings (Modelo 111 among the returns) are declared in the first twenty días naturales of April, July, October and January, and in the first twenty of every month where numbers 1 and 2 of Article 71.3 of the Reglamento del IVA apply or where, for the income the article names, the withholder is a public administration whose last approved annual budget exceeds 6 million euros. Article 124.1 of Ley 27/2014 puts the Impuesto sobre Sociedades return (Modelo 200) in the 25 días naturales that follow the six months after the end of the tax period. The AEAT's 2026 taxpayer calendar says that a deadline which falls on a local or regional holiday ends on the next día hábil, except Modelo 369; the AEAT page on the Modelo 303 filing period adds that Saturday is inhábil and that a last filing day which is inhábil moves to the next día hábil.

How March 2027 compares year over year

March 2026 also had 22 días laborables, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year. On the surrounding months, February 2027 has 20 días laborables and April 2027 has 22. Looking forward, March 2028 has 23 días laborables under the same Spain-wide holiday calendar.

Using this calculator in Spain

The 22 business days of March 2027 are its Monday-to-Friday days less the days of the calculator's Spain set, the days that are a holiday in all seventeen comunidades autónomas, in Ceuta and in Melilla; a holiday missing from any of those territories is not in the set. The count measures the days the month offers for preparing a return, not where a filing window ends: Article 124.1 of Ley 27/2014, for one, sets the window for the Impuesto sobre Sociedades return (Modelo 200) in días naturales (calendar days), the 25 that follow the six months after the end of the tax period. A window's end can also move: the AEAT's 2026 taxpayer calendar says that a deadline which falls on a local or regional holiday ends on the next día hábil, except Modelo 369, whose filing period does not move.

How March 2027 is shaped

The headline count answers how many días laborables March 2027 contains. It does not answer where they sit, and for anything measured in consecutive days rather than cumulative days that second question is the binding one. What follows is derived entirely from the Spain-wide holiday calendar and a working week that treats sábado and domingo as the weekend, with no assumption about how any particular obligation behaves.

The month that closes the first quarter

March closes Q1 and is one of the seven 31-day months. Because it ends a quarter, its final working day is also the quarter's final working day, so a March count carries two boundaries rather than one. It is also the month in which the Gregorian year's day-of-week pattern first repeats: March and November always share the same weekday alignment in any given year.

In March 2027 that comes to 22 días laborables across 31 calendar days, against 20 in February 2027 and 22 in April 2027.

A clean start to the working week

March 2027 opens on the first working day of the week. That is the alignment where the month's own numbering and the working week agree: week one of the month is a whole working week that belongs entirely to March, with nothing borrowed from the month before. Of the 5 possible starts this is the only one where "the first week" and "the first 5 días laborables" describe the same span.

The opening stretch runs from Monday, March 1 to March 5, five días laborables before the first break. March 2027 carries 22 días laborables in total, so that opening block is 23% of the month's working capacity.

Five working stretches

March splits into five working stretches. That is the ordinary shape of a month whose only interruptions are its weekends, and it means the month's internal boundaries are all predictable a year in advance: nothing here depends on a holiday date moving.

The working days of March 2027 arrive in stretches of 5, 5, 5, 4, and 3 days. The longest unbroken stretch runs five days, from March 1 to March 5. A task needing more consecutive días laborables than that cannot be completed inside a single stretch, whatever the month's total looks like.

The month is front-loaded. It opens with five consecutive days and closes with three, so capacity thins toward the end. Work deferred out of the first stretch arrives in a shorter one, which is how a schedule that looked comfortable in week one stops fitting.

Three weekdays occur five times

A 31-day month contains four full seven-day cycles and three days over, so exactly three weekdays occur five times and the other four occur four times. In March 2027 the three are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Which three it is follows entirely from the weekday the month opens on, which is why the working-day count of a 31-day month moves year to year even when its holidays do not.

All of them are working days here, so the surplus lands entirely on the working week: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each occur 5 times. A weekend of two days can take at most two of them, and had it done so the same month would carry 20 días laborables rather than 22.

One closure, and where it lands

March 2027 carries a single Spain-wide closure on a working day: Viernes Santo on Friday, March 26. A holiday's cost to a month is not only the day it removes; it is also where the removal falls, because the same closure can extend an existing break or cut a working stretch in half.

It sits directly beside a weekend rather than inside a working week, so it extends an existing break instead of creating a new one. That is the cheapest position a holiday can occupy: the month loses a day but keeps its shape.

19 working days pass before the closure and only 3 follow it. With the break past the midpoint, most of the month's capacity has already been spent when it arrives, so anything the closure displaces competes for a shrinking remainder.

The closures around this month

March 2027 carries one Spain-wide closure of its own, and the months on either side add their own. Where a deadline sits close to a month boundary, the closure that moves it is as likely to be outside the month as inside it.

Looking outside the month, the last was Epifanía del Señor on January 6, 2027, 54 calendar days before March began and the next is Fiesta Nacional de España on October 12, 2027, 195 calendar days after it ends.

Across the whole of 2027 the Spain-wide calendar puts seven closures on working days, of which one falls in March. That ratio, rather than the raw count, is what tells you whether a month is carrying more than its share of the year's downtime.

A midweek close

The month ends in the middle of a working week. Two working days of the final calendar week fall in March and the remainder in the month after, which makes the closing week a partial period on both sides. A midweek close is the pattern most likely to push month-end tasks into the following month by default, simply because the week continues past the boundary.

The last working day of March 2027 is Wednesday, March 31. Counting back from there, the third-to-last is Monday, March 29, two calendar days before the month closes.

The quarter closes here

March closes Q1, so the quarter's last working day and this month's last working day are the same date. Everything the quarter has deferred arrives inside these 22 días laborables, and there is no further month in the period to move it into.

Across the whole quarter there are 61 días laborables, of which 22 fall in March. The other two months carry January 2027 with 19 and February 2027 with 20. It is the largest of the three, so work deferred out of March lands in a month with less room than this one had.

The week's last working day is the scarcest

The last working day of the week is the one March gives least often. That matters more than the equivalent shortfall mid-week, because end-of-week cutoffs tend to be the ones that cannot move: work deferred past them waits out the whole weekend rather than a single night.

Counted as worked rather than as occurring, March 2027 gives Monday 5, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 5, Thursday 4, and Friday 3. A weekly commitment pinned to a particular weekday fires that many times in the month, which is the number a rota needs and not the one the calendar shows.

One of the year's longest working months

No month of 2027 carries more días laborables than March under the Spain-wide calendar. A year's working days are not distributed evenly across its twelve months, and the gap between the longest and the shortest is wide enough that a target divided by twelve is wrong in both directions.

2027 carries 254 días laborables in total under the Spain-wide calendar. The longest month of the year is March 2027 with 22 and the shortest is January 2027 with 19, a spread of 3. March ranks 1st of the twelve with 22.

Spain closures across the year

A month's working-day count only means something against the country's whole calendar. Two countries that share a weekend and happen to have the same closure-free month can still run very different years, and Spain is placed as follows.

Across 2027 the Spain-wide closures fall 3 in Q1, 0 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 4 in Q4. A further three holidays land on the sábado and domingo weekend and cost no working day at all, which is why a country's holiday count and its working-day loss are different numbers.

The longest uninterrupted run in the 2027 calendar sits between March 26, 2027 and October 12, 2027, 200 calendar days with no Spain-wide closure in between. Stretches like that are where multi-week work belongs, and they move from year to year whenever a movable holiday does.

Where the month sits in the year's closure pattern

Closures are not spread evenly across a calendar year. They cluster around fixed anniversaries and around whichever lunar or movable feasts a jurisdiction observes, so two adjacent months can carry very different loads, and the Spain-wide calendar is no exception.

2027 opens its Spain-wide closures with Año Nuevo on January 1, 2027 and ends them with Inmaculada Concepción on December 8, 2027. The densest month of the year is January 2027 with two closures on working days.

The same count as last year

March 2027 and March 2026 carry the same number of días laborables, 22 in each. An unchanged total does not mean an unchanged month: the working days sit on different dates and break into different stretches, so a schedule copied forward date by date will not line up even though the capacity has not moved.

March opens 2026 on a Sunday, 2027 on a Monday, and 2028 on a Wednesday. That movement, one weekday in a common year and two after a leap day, is what makes the three counts differ. The count of closures on working days differs between the two years as well, so alignment is not the only thing moving. Looking ahead, March 2028 carries 23 días laborables.

Where the month's anchor dates fall

One of the common monthly anchor dates in March 2027 lands outside the working week or on a closure. The table below resolves each one against the Spain-wide calendar, together with the first working day on or after it.

DateWeekdayStatus under the Spain-wide calendarFirst working day on or after
March 1MondayWorking dayMarch 1
March 5FridayWorking dayMarch 5

March 15MondayWorking dayMarch 15
March 20SaturdayWeekendMarch 22, 2027
March 25ThursdayWorking dayMarch 25

The final column is arithmetic, not a legal conclusion. Whether an obligation actually moves when its date is not a working day depends on the instrument that sets it, and this site does not assume a shift rule for any jurisdiction. Where a rule is known it is stated in the holiday data methodology and on the country page it applies to.

Net terms dated in March 2027

An invoice dated the 1st of March on calendar-day Net 30 terms comes due on March 31, 2027, a working day under the Spain-wide calendar. Terms counted in calendar days move independently of the working week, so the same term written on two consecutive months can settle cleanly in one and roll across a closure in the other.

Invoice dateNet 30, calendar daysNet 60, calendar days
Dated March 1March 31, 2027April 30, 2027

Dated March 31April 30, 2027May 30, 2027 (rolls to May 31, 2027)

Net 30 and Net 60 are commercial conventions rather than statutory periods, and both are counted here in calendar days, which is how they are almost always written. Where a contract counts in working days instead, use the between-dates calculator with the Spain calendar selected, because the two produce different dates whenever a closure falls inside the term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many business days are in March 2027 under the Spain-wide holiday calendar?
March 2027 has 22 días laborables under the Spain-wide holiday calendar. The month spans 31 calendar days, of which 8 fall on a weekend and 1 is a Spain-wide holiday that lands on a weekday. The remaining 22 weekdays are countable as días laborables for invoicing, deadline tracking, and contract math.
Which Spain holidays affect March 2027?
March 2027 contains one Spain-wide holiday: Viernes Santo on Friday, March 26. The calculator skips it. Regional or industry-specific closures may add further non-working days for narrower contract definitions; layer them into the calculator's Advanced options if needed.
Why does the Spanish calendar vary year-to-year?
Part of the calendar is each comunidad autónoma's choice. Article 37.2 of the Estatuto de los Trabajadores allows no more than fourteen fiestas laborales a year, two of them local, and lets a community add one more, recoverable, in a year when too few national holidays fall on a Sunday for it to set one of its traditional holidays. It names four national days to be respected in any case: the Natividad del Señor, Año Nuevo, 1 May and 12 October. Article 45.1 of Real Decreto 2001/1983 lists the national days, and nine of them, those four included, cannot be replaced (letters a to c). The letter d days, Jueves Santo, the Epifanía del Señor and San José or Santiago Apóstol, a community may replace with traditional holidays of its own, as it may the Monday rest that follows a national holiday on a Sunday (article 45.3). The communities send their lists to the ministry before 30 September (article 45.4), and the lists for 2024 to 2027 were published in the BOE as resolutions of the Dirección General de Trabajo, each counting twelve days under these rules. Article 46 adds up to two local holidays a year in each municipality. The calculator's set holds only the days that are a holiday in all seventeen comunidades autónomas, in Ceuta and in Melilla; add a regional or local date under Advanced options.
What happens when a Spanish national holiday falls on a Sunday?
The rest day moves to the Monday. Article 37.2 of the Estatuto de los Trabajadores says the rest for a holiday that coincides with a Sunday is moved "en todo caso", in every case, to the Monday immediately after, and article 45.2 of Real Decreto 2001/1983 repeats it for the national holidays. Each comunidad autónoma may replace that Monday with a traditional holiday of its own (article 45.3), so whether the Monday is a holiday depends on the territory: the list the BOE publishes for the year marks it territory by territory. Those Mondays are not in the calculator's set, which keeps the holiday on its own date; if your territory keeps the Monday, add it under Advanced options.
Why does the business-day count vary year to year?
Two things shift the monthly count for Spain. First, the day of the week the first of the month lands on changes the count of each weekday. Second, Spain-wide holidays anchored to a fixed date shift their weekday across years. Some years a fixed-date holiday lands on a weekend; some countries shift the observance to an adjacent weekday and some absorb it into the weekend. March 2026 also had 22 días laborables, so the working capacity is unchanged year over year.
When is the last working day of March 2027?
The last working day of March 2027 under the Spain-wide calendar is Wednesday, March 31. The month's last calendar day is Wednesday, March 31, so the two are the same date this year. Counting back, the third-to-last working day is Monday, March 29.
How many working days in a row does March 2027 offer?
March 2027 has 22 días laborables in total, but they do not run consecutively. They arrive in five stretches of 5, 5, 5, 4, and 3 days, so the longest unbroken run is five days, from March 1 to March 5. No working day in the month is isolated between two closures.
